Step 1: choose a view
Updated over 7 months ago

Once you have set up your planning board, it's time to start planning. But before you begin, it's essential to choose a view that best suits your process.

To select a view, click on the plus icon next to the title of your planning board. You can choose from List, Kanban, Calendar, Timeline, and Analysis.

List

The list view in vPlan offers a flexible way to view and manage your planning. It allows you to display your planning in a structured table format, making it customizable to your needs. This view is useful for planning, tracking of the execution, and especially for analyzing information. With the list view, you can display all the data you enter in vPlan in an organized manner. You can even use formulas, similar to Excel, to perform calculations.

To make the most of the list view, it's helpful to learn its key features. Functions like filters, customizable columns, and column sorting can help you organize and view your extensive collection of planning data effectively. A unique feature of the list view is its integration with Google Maps. When you add an address field, the location is displayed on Google Maps, providing quick insights into the locations of your planned tasks. Additionally, you can export your data to a CSV file in the List view, allowing you to open and further analyze your data in Excel.

Kanban

In vPlan, you can use visual status columns to plan tasks. This provides immediate insight into the work status, what needs to be done first, and where potential issues may arise. In the kanban view, you typically plan tasks based on progress status rather than specific dates. Of course, in vPlan, you can combine multiple approaches. You can even add dates to your plan cards, making your work visible on the calendar or timeline when needed.

Calendar

The calendar view in vPlan offers a detailed way to manage your planning. It allows you to easily drag plan cards from day to day or from resource to resource while keeping an eye on capacity. The calendar view, like other views, can be customized with filters and preferences to suit your needs. It provides insights into capacity at various levels, from daily to stage and resource levels. You can easily move cards between resources and stages to adjust your planning. It's also possible to enable or disable non-working days, such as holidays.

Timeline

The timeline view in vPlan has many advantages. It makes planning easier by providing a visual overview of when tasks need to be completed. You can instantly see changes in the planning, helping prevent issues and ensuring smoother production.

The timeline view helps you organize your orders and projects over an extended period. You have the option to adjust the period and zoom level, allowing you to zoom in and out, ranging from the yearly level to the hourly level. This provides detailed insight into your projects or a broader overview of future plans.

The ability to add columns for additional information, sort columns according to your preference, and display capacity clearly makes the timeline view even more powerful. You can also split cards for interruptions in the planning or if you want to assign part of the card to another resource.

Enabling or disabling days, quick navigation, and the ability to view card information with tooltips make this view highly flexible and user-friendly.

Analytics

With the analytics view, you can learn from the past and anticipate the future. Unlike a planning view, analytics provides information based on your existing planning. This view offers insights into factors such as capacity and tracked time.

An important aspect of analytics is understanding the tracked time per activity or user for specific periods.

The analytics view enables you to gain deep insights into how your planning has progressed and how you can optimize your resources and time in the future. It is a powerful tool for improving your business processes.
