Step 4: create new card
Updated over 4 months ago

Now that you have set up the board, chosen the correct view and overview, and know what the board in vPlan looks like, we can start creating cards. The cards are the most essential part of the planboard. Cards are used to represent tasks, actions or assignments. A card can be an activity that needs to be done, for example a plank that needs to be sawn. It can also be something that should be visual and not forgotten, for example sales orders to be delivered or incoming purchase orders.

Backlog

When you open the backlog, you will find a green button with + Create new card. When you have clicked the green button you will see a Name field. Here you enter the title of the card. Then press enter, and you can immediately continue creating more cards. The card you just created now appears in the backlog. You can open it by clicking on it and fill it with all information, such as:

  • Description

  • Activities

  • Resources

  • Labels

  • Comments

After saving this new card, you can plan it from the backlog. The next article, in step 5, explains how to do this.

Planning

You can also choose not to create the card in the backlog, but directly in the planning. This works differently per view, so it is explained below in different tabs.

List

In the list view you can quickly create new cards. This allows all your colleagues to quickly see new orders or tasks, for example. You do this easily by typing in the line at the bottom of your list.

When you press enter on your keyboard, the card will appear in the list.

While creating a card, you can already set the planned date and, depending on which view you create a new card in, the stage, so that your card is immediately planned at the right time and place. When you click to open the card, you can further customize it to your liking. For example, you can enter a description or assign a resource to the card.

You can create a new card in any overview of the list:

If you view the list from the stages view, you create a card directly on a particular stage. In the second view, the groups, you create a card on a self-established group of resources. While creating the card, in addition to the planned date and stage, you can directly assign one of the resources within this group to the card.

In the resources view, you immediately assign a card to the resource, where you create the new card. Here you can directly choose on which stage and on which date the card will be planned.

From the status view you create a new card on a certain status. Here, as well, you choose which stage and date to plan the card for.

The last view, the cards view, shows all your cards sorted by collection. If you create a new card here, it will be added to the existing collection.

Calendar

Add a card in the calendar easily and quickly, directly in your planning. Move your mouse to the upper right corner of the block. An easel will open and a + button will appear.

Create a new card by clicking on it. A Create new card field will appear, where you enter the title of the card. Save the card card by pressing enter on your keyboard. When you press enter, the field to create a new card is still displayed, allowing you to quickly create multiple cards. Also in the calendar, you can create cards on the three different views, on stages, resources or statuses. Once you have created a card, it appears immediately in your calendar. After this, you can open the card and fill it with all the necessary information.

Timeline

In the timeline view you can easily create new card. To create new cards, first go to preferences at the top right by clicking on the eye icon: .

There you have an option to turn on Create new card. When you do this, a new line will appear at the bottom of the columns where you can create new cards. Here you can enter the title of the card, and press enter.

When you press enter on your keyboard, the new card will appear.

While creating a car you can already set the planned date and, depending on in which view you create a new card, the stage, so that your card is immediately planned at the right time. When you click to open the card, you can further customize it to your liking. For example, enter a description or assign a resource to the card.

Note

You can already see the card in the columns on the left, but the card will not appear in the timeline until you give it a planned date.

You can create a new card in any view of the timeline:

If you view the timeline from the stages view, you create a card directly on a particular stage. In the second view, the groups, you create a card on a self-organized group of resources. While creating the card, in addition to the planned date and stage, you can directly assign one of the resources within this group to the card.

In the resources overview you immediately assign a card to the resource, where you create the new card. Here you can again directly choose on which stage and on which date the card will be planned.

From the status view you create a new card on a certain status. Here, too, you choose which stage and date to plan the card for.

The last view, the cards view, shows all your cards sorted by collection. If you create a new card here, it will be added to the existing collection.

Kanban

Add a card in the kanban view easily and quickly, directly in your planning. Move your mouse over a block. A Create new card line appears at the bottom of the block.

This is where you type the title of the card. Save the new card by pressing enter on your keyboard. When you press enter, the field to create a new card is still displayed, allowing you to quickly create multiple cards. Once you have created a card, it will appear immediately in your planning, on the status where you created it. After this you can click open the card and fill it with all the necessary information.
