No one likes a lot of manual work. With the automations in vPlan, you can save time by automatically triggering actions based on certain events. This is done through customizable, predefined, rules.
In this article, we'll explain in general what an automation is and how to deploy it with an example. If you're looking for the explanation and operation of a specific automation, feel free to check out the Automations support section.
How do you add a new automation?
To add an automation, go to the planboard settings of the board where you want this automation to work. Go to the last tab Automations. Click the green Add automation button at the top right. Here you will see all the automations we have, sorted by category.
What is an automation?
An automation is a combination of a trigger and action. Based on the trigger, the action is performed. Let's go through a simple example:
When a card is created on stage something, create another card on stage something plus/minus number of workdays.
The options in bold are the parameters, which you can set yourself. In vPlan, this looks like this:
In this case, the trigger is a new card created in a stage of your own choosing. The trigger triggers an automatic action. In this case, a second card is created in a self-selected stage, where you can specify how many days this should be planned before or after the 'trigger' ticket.
After the automation is saved and activated, from now on all actions that meet the conditions will be executed.
