Step 5: plan cards
Updated over 5 months ago

You can plan cards in multiple ways. You can create cards directly in the planning, as explained in step 4, or drag them from the backlog into the planning. In this article you can read how to plan cards from the backlog, explained per view.

List

In addition to creating cards directly in list view, you can also plan from the backlog in list view. At the top right of the list view you see the green Backlog button. When you click this, the backlog opens on the right.

You can first create work in the backlog by clicking Create new card, but if you already have cards in the backlog, you can simply pick it up with your mouse (click) and drag it into your planning:

In the list you have the different dimensions to view your planning: stages, groups, resources, statuses or cards. Which dimension you view the planning from also determines where the card is planned when you drag it from the backlog into the list.

Stage

If you view the list from the stages view, a card is immediately planned on a particular stage. If you have added multiple activities in the backlog that are within different stages, then multiple cards will be created in different stages the moment you drag the card to a stage.

Groups

In the second view, the groups, you drag the card to one of your self-defined group of resources. This card is then assigned to all resources within this group.

Resources

In the resources view, you immediately plan a card on the resource, to which you drag the card.

Statuses

From the status overview you drag the card to a particular status.

Cards

In the last view, the cards view, you can see all your cards sorted by collection. Drag a collection from the backlog here, and a new collection will be created and automatically planned on the corresponding day and stages.

After you have planned the card, you can open it and fill it with all the necessary information.

Tip

You can move your card back in the backlog. You do this by opening the card, and clicking on Move to backlog via the action menu (lightning icon).

Calendar

In addition to creating cards directly in the calendar, you can also plan from the backlog. At the top right of the calendar view, you will see the green Backlog button. When you click this, the backlog opens on the right.

You can first create work in the backlog by clicking Create new card, but if you already have cards in the backlog, you can simply pick it up with your mouse (click) and drag it into your planning:

In the calendar, you have the different dimensions to view your planning: stages, resources and statuses. Which dimension you view the planning from also determines where the card is planned when you drag it from the backlog into the calendar.

Stage

If you view the calendar from the stages view, a card is immediately planned on a particular stage. If you have added multiple activities in the backlog that are within different stages, then multiple cards will be created on different stages the moment you drag the card to a stage.

You can first create work in the backlog by clicking Create new card, but if you already have work in the backlog, you can simply pick it up with your mouse (click) and drag it into your planning:

You will see when you drag the card into the planning a purple line wil appear under the day when you will plan it on. You will also see that the stage row gets bigger, to make it clear where you are going to release the card.

In the timeline you have the different dimensions to view your planning: stages, groups, resources, statuses or cards. Which dimension you view the planning from also determines where the card is planned when you drag it into the timeline from the backlog.
