In this article we explain how you can quickly and easily set up a Kanban planning board.
Do you want to know what Kanban is? Then first read Introduction Kanban
Setting up Kanban:
To set up a Kanban board, first, create a new board through the configuration of vPlan. The minimum requirement for a well-functioning planning board is 1 stage and multiple statuses. The most important part of your Kanban planning are the statuses. If you want to assign tasks in your Kanban planning, it is important to link resources to your plan board. Finally, you can enrich the planning board with labels, extra fields, checklists and automations.
Step-by-step guide:
1. Adding a board (required)
Add a planning board via the configuration. See also Add a planning board
2. Add a stage (required)
Add at least 1 stage to your planning board. See: Plan board: Managing stages
One stage with the name ''Planning'' is sufficient.
Tip: The difference between stages and statuses is explained in: How can I move a card from stage to stage? The difference between stages and statuses.
3. Adding statuses (required)
Statuses are the most important element of your Kanban board. Statuses are the shelf columns in which you make your work transparent and move it from left to right. Think carefully about how you want to divide your planning process into statuses, and set them up. See: Plan board: Manage statuses
4. Linking resources (optional)
If you want to assign your work to machines or your team members, you also have to link resources to your plan board. See also: Create resources (4/7) and How do I get a new resource visible on my planning board?
5. Labels, custom fields, checklists and automations (optional)
To further personalise your planning board, you can use labels, extra fields, checklists and automations. See:
Plan board: Manage Labels
Plan board: Additional fields
Plan Board: Adding Checklists
Plan board: Setting up Automation
If you have followed these 5 steps, you already have a usable Kanban board. Of course, you can still adjust the layout at any time through the configuration of your plan board.
